The freelance edit job that I got from a repeat client (which is always a good sign) and then left because of technical reasons is back with me and hopefully I'll finish it off this week. Also have a small acting gig in mid-August that I am looking forward to.
It's day-7 of my 10 day work stretch - another 3 more days after tonight. Please hurry up will ya?

Inception
Watched 'Inception' this morning and it was an amazing movie. It well and truly exceeded whatever expectations I had of it. I could rave on and on about it but won't by saying one simple thing - go and watch it.
I came across this awesome article on NY Times website and it is a must read. It raises so many valid points and is so comprehensive in it's argument that you can't help feeling amazed by the efforts of the author.

Blindness
Sometimes we just don't see what's not in front of us and sometimes thats the difference between being happy and being sad. We are all blind and only the pure of heart are really happy, for they can see.
I was sitting at an eating joint waiting for my food to arrive when a blind girl walked in and ordered her food. She then proceeded to walk over and sit at what for her was an empty table. The Chinese guy who was already sitting at the table moved one seat away from her as she sat down but then 2 young college kids just rocked up to the table and asked the blind girl if they could join her and the blind girl agreed.
The 2 young chaps went on and asked about the girl and then introduced themselves - they were from Snells Beach and they were from some college from up there. They then asked her if they could touch her hand - to which the girl said yes and the guys cautiously and with respect put their hands on top of the girls hand which was lying palm down on the table. The Chinese guy who was sitting right opposite them was busy on a phone call and he was pretty loud but that didn't seem to bother the 2 guys and the girl.
The guys lowered their voice and started saying something to the girl at which point I consciously drifted my attention away from them as it felt like an invasion of privacy. After a while both the guys got up and said thank you to the girl and left. The girl sat there without moving till her food arrived. I don't know what the guys said to her and wish I had listened because the moment after they left, where the girl sat still was magical.
Wish I wasn't blind.

Time Out
4 days off coming up and I am looking forward to it. Its a 10 day work stretch (by day i mean night shifts) after that but thats alright. I prefer night shifts during winter as you get the day to yourself to enjoy. Film festival is on but havent checked out any movies yet - might catch a movie during this mini break.
Thats me for now.

Road Trip North
The road trip I took last weekend up north was an awesome experience. Beautiful weather, great company and new experiences - it's feels good to be alive. The one thing I did realize is that it's better to be a passenger on a road trip rather than being a driver as you can see stuff and take photographs being a passenger.
First stop was Whangarei where I caught up with Kate and also checked out the Rainbow Warrior Exhibition at Whagarei Arts Museum. It was the 25th anniversary of the sinking of 'Rainbow Warrior' - an event which defined New Zealand as a nuclear free country (even though we let cargo ships with nuclear material dock on our ports according to a recent revelation) and the exhibition was a commemoration for it.
After that it was onto Birdman Festival in Russell and it was a beautiful day for it too. It's basically people in costumes jumping off into the harbor. Huge crowd turned out to watch the event and it was festive spirit all around.
Next stop was Kerikeri and it's now the furthermost I've been up on the North Island. I'll get to Cape Reinga one of these days. Time in Kerikeri was nice as it was chilled out and most of the time disappeared into watching movies but did manage to checkout the farmer's market. I purchased a bottle of Fire Dragon Chillies sauce as it had an amazing kick and it turned out to be a good buy as I've now cooked 2 dishes using the sauce and I loooooooove it.
The drive back was harder as it was night driving but I managed to get back to Auckland in 3 hours flat instead of 3.5-4 hours that it usually takes. And I've pretty much been sick since - down with the flu. Everyone at work is falling down like flies from the flu and I had to take 2 days off work to try and get well. I am still not 100% but atleast I think I am over the worst of it. My way to combat it has been drinking lots of honey-lemon hot drink and also eating the dishes I cooked with the fire dragon chilli sauce.
Thats really me for now. Looking forward to 4 days off coming up.

Wired
Finished watching Season-4 of 'The Wire' and it is just brilliant. It is one helluva series - only one more season left to watch and will save that for next week.
Went to Mr. Mamea's birthday party last week and it was great meeting the Mamea family again after ages. Photos will follow whenever they come through.
Still trying to get the momentum back up and running on 'Moments' and had one workshop with Carla and now slowly sorting stuff out. Why are 'third' projects the hardest to bring to life?
Back has finally come right and started going to the gym again recently. One word to describe it right now - painful. The good kind of pain. 2 months at the gym and I should be back in shape.
Going up north for the weekend and I'm excited.
